The Larry Combest Community Health and Wellness Center is a clinic operated by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing. The new building includes 6,485 square feet designed to provide comprehensive primary medical care to residents of eastern Lubbock.
Constructed on land donated by the Lubbock Independent School District, the facility has been designed for future growth. It is situated on the Harwell Elementary School grounds, adjacent to the Copper Rawlings Senior Citizens Center, to attract both seniors and families of school-age children.
This facility provides eight exam rooms, seven offices, a family counseling room, four office cubicles for visiting nurse practitioners and physicians, a pharmacy, laboratory, break room and a classroom for the diabetes-education program.
An accent wall of abstract designs with sky, land and strata from the canyons around Lubbock creates a cheerful greeting immediately inside the building. Bright colors and a tile section separate the ground from the strata. The design, situated on a high wall set back above the restrooms, wraps around into the waiting room and drops down to floor level adjacent to the classroom, making it visible from several angles.
