With an anticipated increase in student population and with at least five existing residence halls in need of renovations, SUNY Brockport required new student housing to provide swing space while the college renovates the older facilities. Eagle Hall houses 263 students in a four-story facility built on an open space at the heart of the campus. The exterior was designed to complement the surrounding buildings and provide a unique identity for the students living inside.
The hotel-style design includes double-loaded corridors hosting double bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. Amenities within the building include kitchenettes and studies on each floor as well as a large building kitchen and laundry facility. The design boasts a large welcoming lobby and a multipurpose room that spills out onto an outdoor patio seating 100 and outfitted with a firepit. The extensive use of glazing on this project promotes a see-and-be-seen philosophy, which enables students to see activity going on from the outside to encourage building and supporting community interaction. This design-build project is designed to LEED Silver standards.
