Robert Frost Elementary School was built in 1967. As the area grew, so did student enrollment. This growth, plus the importance of technology in the educational curriculum, created a need for a new library media center (LMC).
The LMC addition combines the old with the new. Students and teachers can read books, view videotapes or use computers to access the Internet. The classic motif of stone pilasters, arches and banding used throughout the building is echoed in the arched windows on the west side of the center.
This space is designed to accommodate four classes simultaneously. Various ceiling elevations help control sound. Computers are arranged throughout the LMC, with a separate computer lab surrounded by windows on two walls. These walls can be removed to accommodate future changes.
The rotunda’s exterior windows on the south wall flood the area with natural light. When the area with carpeted steps is not being used for puppet shows and storytelling, students can lounge and read books.
