Bentonville Schools, Ignite Professional Studies
Bentonville, Arkansas
The Ignite Professional Studies program was developed to provide relevant learning experiences in collaboration with regional businesses, non-profits, and industry professionals. The program addresses a critical component in education—providing post-secondary options aligned to students’ passions and strengths.
Eleventh- and 12th-grade students in the eight career strands of the program were meeting in different locations throughout the district; the project sought to bring them to a central location where each strand could have spaces designed specifically for its needs.
The design for the interior renovation of this existing building was developed to make spaces feel more like the office settings where students interned, rather than a traditional school. Natural light was brought into the central collaborative space, and custom ceiling clouds were used to create visual depth and height in the existing low structure while maintaining acoustic performance and adhering to budgetary restraints.
The feeling of a modern office environment is established through use of soft gray vinyl plank flooring, hexagonal textured carpet tile, colorful furniture with built-in power, magnetic writing surfaces, and contemporary lighting.
