Jackson-Jackson & Associates, Inc. collaborated with the Wayne State College academic community in the re-visioning of the existing U.S. Conn Library, situated at the heart of the campus. The design sought to ensure that the library would remain the heart of activity on the campus for years to come. The architects, consultants, and college officials held visioning sessions during which all stakeholders were invited to share their individual and collective aspirations for the future of the library.
A vision statement, grounded in three fundamental aspirations, was developed to guide the planning process and carry out the strategies envisioned for the project. These aspirations laid the foundation for the project: renovation to address numerous building deficiencies; impact on student learning, where the most important need was more study space; and iconic image, to affirm the library as the foremost place where the college recognizes student success and learning excellence.
The existing building interior was renovated in its entirety, and two additions were constructed to improve access visibility while integrating with the existing structure.
