W.N. Delzell Residence Hall is a 1939 Gothic style residence hall with four levels. The structure has been used through the years as a men’s residence hall and needed major renovations and an elevator.
Updating the interior finishes was crucial, but it also was important to the college to maintain the character of the building. An elevator and entry addition was designed to match the original building’s brick and stone detailing and provide accessibility for those with disabilities.
The entire building has been renovated—notably the restrooms, residence hall rooms, and common areas. The exterior building envelope has been upgraded to meet the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, and new mechanical and electrical systems have been installed. The new mechanical system incorporates a geothermal well field and provides improved temperature control to meet student expectations. Renovation of the interior focused on addressing user expectations, such as information technology infrastructure and numerous electrical outlets. Efficient use of existing square footage was reviewed, and additional rooms were provided within the existing structure.
