Wartburg College, Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center
Waverly, Iowa
The Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center is one of the nation’s first combined campus and community athletic and recreation centers. The facility was intended specifically to accommodate the needs of the college’s nearly 1,800 students plus faculty and staff, as well as members from the city of Waverly and surrounding communities.
Shared areas for college and community members include strength training and cardio fitness equipment, a wrestling room, aerobics and multipurpose rooms, two racquetball courts, a climbing wall, 200-meter fieldhouse, and an auxiliary gymnasium for practicing and intramural sports. A natatorium offers a leisure pool, whirlpool, sauna and wet classroom. Public spaces include lounges, a childcare center, meeting rooms and a juice bar.
Levick Arena, with a capacity of 1,800, hosts basketball and volleyball competitions. The wrestling room is considered one of the finest in the nation.
A special component is the wellness and healthcare center with a health-services laboratory, massage therapy room, fitness assessment, testing lab, medical records, physicians’ and administrative offices, and a central nurse station. An athletic training room includes rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, examination rooms, taping rooms and treatment rooms.
