With a recently purchased, heavily wooded, 42-acre site for its new campus, The Woodlands Christian Academy wanted a master plan that created a campus feeling while still allowing for future growth. The architect created a plan that encompasses a lower school, middle school and upper school, athletic complex, fine-arts facility, library and cafeteria that ultimately will serve 1,200 students from pre-K to 12.
Phase I of the master plan is a single-story 19,000-square-foot facility that will serve as a multiuse building until the other facilities are in operation. Eventually, it will house the lower school. Currently it contains a variety of specialty spaces, including a music room, science lab, art room, kitchen/servery, gymnasium/dining area, library and administrative functions.
Texas limestone, brick and a metal roof make up the exterior palette, creating a simple yet durable vernacular for the remainder of the campus. The interior contains brightly colored carpets and fabrics, specialty lighting and a voluminous 1,800-square-foot library with 14-foot glass walls on three sides, providing an abundance of natural light and spectacular views of the forest nearby.
