The vision of the Schieffer School of Journalism is simple: to take its place among the top journalism schools at elite universities in broadcast journalism and integrated marketing communications in the United States. Situated in the nation’s sixth-largest media market, the school desired a design that reflected converged news gathering and dissemination.
The Schieffer School focuses on seven tools of mass communication: statistics, research and technology, free media, diversity, critical and creative thinking, theory and ethical standards. This emphasis provides an opportunity to develop additional concentrated strengths in print or broadcast news and multi-platform integrated marketing communications education, incorporating the disciplines of advertising and public relations into a comprehensive approach to communication planning and implementation.
The architect used its expertise in mass communication and broadcast media design while working closely with the stakeholders to achieve current and long-term project initiatives.
The project required adding to and renovating a campus icon known as the Moudy Visual Arts & Communication Building.
