Rollins College, Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center
Winter Park, Florida
At Rollins College, student interest has been growing in recreation and fitness; however, the existing facility did not meet these needs. To accommodate the increased interest in athletics, the architect designed a facility that would support healthy lifestyles for students and faculty.
The exterior of the Harold & Ted Alfond Sports Center was designed to complement the existing campus character. The architectural context of Rollins College is a Mediterranean styling consisting of traditional materials such as stucco, limestone and red tile.
Renovation of the 34,000-square-foot existing facility included the 2,000-seat performance gymnasium, locker rooms, main lobby and concession area. An auxiliary gymnasium, fitness center, athletic training facility, multipurpose room, Hall of Fame room, laboratory/classroom and offices make up the 41,000-square-foot expansion.
The facility was designed to accommodate the college’s increased athletics, physical education and recreation programs. The performance gymnasium is available for sporting events, convocations, concerts and a variety of campus events.
