As part of an effort to reorganize the East Aurora Union Free School District, Parkdale Elementary School received significant renovations and additions. This close-knit community was the home of the Roycroft artisans, whose rich elements of early American design inspired the palate for the new Parkdale Elementary. The new commons at Parkdale, with its Arts and Crafts vocabulary, provides the historical link of the new school to the identity of the community.

Interior design elements also promote a strong community connection. The stone fireplace at the center of the room features a clock designed and crafted by a local artisan/high school teacher, and an inlaid plaque bears the inspirational words of Roycroft founder, Elbert Hubbard: "Aim high and believe yourself capable of great things."

This welcoming atrium provides a safe, multipurpose space for the school, and extends to the community by hosting many local events such as the Roycrofters-at-Large summer festival.
