Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus Animation and Gaming International Complex
Miami, Florida
The Miami Animation and Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) is a state-of-the-art facility designed to mirror animation studios like those of Disney and Universal.
Educational specifications were created to maximize an existing shell space. Challenges included low ceilings and no connection to the main lobby. The latter prompted an aluminum structure that created the Gallery.
The Gallery serves as the entrance. Here completed work is on display to showcase newly developed animations and games that can be enjoyed by all.
Next is the Open Lab, a multipurpose space featuring leading-edge workstations and “The Brain.” The Brain, a grouping of LCDs, is connected to every workstation and facilitates the sharing of content. The open lab also serves as an arena for guest speakers and competitions.
MAGIC also boasts animation classroom studios with functions similar to the open lab: an audio suite for production and audio engineering, and the Incubator for brainstorming and workshops.
A color-correction suite is equal to that of industry standards, and a motion-capture studio gives students access to a green screen, motion-capture equipment, and tracking.
