The Lake Havasu High School athletic complex has been described as one of the best in Arizona. This long-awaited project, made possible by passing a bond, has proven to be a wise investment that promotes community pride.
Lee Barnes Stadium now boasts a 3,000-seat home team grandstand with a press box, LED lighting, restrooms, concessions, and parking lots. The former stadium was demolished to make way for construction of the new stadium, an artificial turf sports field, and an all-weather regulation track. The surfaces of the baseball and softball fields also were replaced with artificial turf.
Every project has challenges, and this one was no different. Because of an extremely hot climate, several artificial turf manufacturers were consulted to obtain a turf system that is appropriate for high temperatures and satisfies the newest concussion prevention safety standards. The steep site with existing terracing and hard dig soils was addressed by benching the site and optimizing the existing contours.
Athletes and community members reap the benefits of LED lighting, cool field technology, generous safety zones, and a lighted jogging path.
