The design of this school, situated on an urban site, is rooted in community connection and sustainability; it focuses on walkability and safety, and offers flexible spaces and outdoor learning environments. The design is a two-story configuration with interior finishes that create warm and inviting spaces and act as a “third space” for students. A color palette was chosen that speaks to the diverse and historical nature of the neighborhood.

The environment aims to engage students and inspire learning through diverse building and landscape materials, daylighting, transparency, and flex spaces. The structural system is a combination of masonry and structural steel with simulated stone, brick, and metal panels for the exterior finishes. A sustainable HVAC solution maximizes the existing resources of the district. The school’s mechanical system is connected to the Teacher’s Administration Center across Burt Street on the north side to use the excess capacity of the existing boiler system.
