Fairfield Career Center’s innovative design transformed the building’s image and serves as a new marketing tool for the district. Also, the addition addresses an increasing student population and new educational programs.
The new facade transformed a dated building into a signature masterpiece. The tower element serves as the dominant feature of the building, and directs visitors and students to the entrance. Once inside, the entryway opens to an arched ceiling with clerestory windows. Structural-steel beams and pendant lighting further enhance the space.
The addition houses new science labs, a computer support technology lab, an HVAC lab and new adult-education spaces. All of these spaces were designed to support evolving educational technology, while keeping an eye toward the future and wireless technology. A high-tech image was developed through a dynamic combination of tile, block and windows.
The career center’s sleek design gives the building a new identity that is launching the district into the future of career and technical education.
