Dallas Baptist University, John and Nita Ford Village / Pedersen Residential College Phase One
Dallas, Texas
Design Team
Andrew Booher (Principal-in-Charge)
John and Nita Ford Village Phase One, completed in July 2020 on the campus of Dallas Baptist University, is home to Pedersen Residential College, where students will encounter an intense focus on holistic education through shared living space, community meals, and classroom discussion. Modern expressions of this concept are known as Living-Learning Communities, where students of similar vocational callings or interests live in a residential area with a faculty mentor and planned activities throughout their time in college. Ford Village is accessible via the O’Guinn Creek Bridge, a vehicular and pedestrian bridge modeled after the John W. Weeks Bridge on the campus of Harvard University. In keeping with Dallas Baptist University’s traditional Georgian architecture theme, Ford Village Phase One is modeled after the historic Williamsburg Inn in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Once completed, this 20-acre development will house about 500 students and provide academic and community facilities. Phase One of Ford Village is home to 64 undergraduate students and one full-time faculty master. This facility also houses faculty offices, administrative support office space, meeting rooms, The Baptist Center for History and Heritage, a full commercial kitchen and dining hall, as well as two distinguished visitor guest apartments and the largest on-campus swimming pool and spa. A second-floor balcony on the west side of the facility provides visitors with a beautiful view of the campus as well as outdoor seating.
John and Nita Ford Village is a community where students are to be transformed into world-changing servant leaders as they live and study alongside their peers in pursuit of their vocational callings.
