The Chesapeake College, Health Professions and Athletics Center (HPAC) is a $37 million LEED Platinum project involving renovations to an existing pool/physical education building and vertical and horizontal additions to enhance program elements and dramatically influence the sense of arrival on campus.
Additions included a full second floor, a two-story horizontal expansion, and new entry features on three sides of the building. Programmatically, the college wanted to bring the health professions degree programs onto campus that were previously conducted offsite.
HPAC fosters interdisciplinary dialogue between general education courses in physical education, wellness, stress management, nutrition, and the allied health professions certificate programs incorporating some of Maryland’s most highly technologically advanced simulation labs. HPAC is the first community college project in Maryland to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
