Center Grove Community School Corporation (CGCSC) made a commitment in late 2013 to build a first-class technology facility that addressed ongoing needs and expanded its award-winning technology department.
The CGCSC has repurposed an existing storage facility at the southeast edge of the main campus. The facility serves the changing needs of a department that is transitioning from a “break-fix” shop to one that provides Instructional, Informational and Innovative (I3T) technology.
The building has a large formal instructional conference room capable of accommodating 30 to 80 people; eight formal offices; and 12 open workstations.
On occasion, the building will be partitioned; a formal public conferencing center will be at one end near the main entry, and a boisterous, “all-hands-on-deck” device deployment processing center will be at the opposite end. In between are offices, collaboration spaces, and intentional nodes and enclaves to promote creativity and interaction.
The layout incorporates a unifying, curving wall and a “Center Grove Red” ceiling bulkhead element that doubles as a wayfinding device. The layout includes numerous types of workstations, including treadmill, lounge, standing, and traditional.
To provide acoustic separation without sacrificing daylighting, a glass overhead garage door was installed between the deployment area and the office/collaboration spaces.
Interior finishes include exposed ceilings that highlight the department’s own cabling work, along with warm wood accents and bold accent colors. North-facing windows provide soft lighting that bounces off curved walls and penetrates deep into inner office spaces.
The I3T Center stands as a symbol of Center Grove’s commitment to providing students with an Exceptional Educational Experience.
