A close partnership of the community, school board, architects and the Ohio School Facilities Commission led to the innovative design of the new K-12 Cambridge City Schools Campus.
The community expressed a desire to create a campus atmosphere, while placing specific grades in separate buildings. Unlike a college campus, where students travel between buildings, the Cambridge campus will incorporate an elementary school building, a middle school building and a high school building on one site, while maintaining separate grade groupings. The three buildings preserve a campus harmony through the use of similar materials, fenestration and architectural elements.
Improving technology also was a key community issue. In response, all three buildings will feature media-retrieval systems that link classroom televisions to technology control centers for distance learning, interactive learning and other multimedia programs.
A central auditeria and an adjacent music suite, a new gymnasium almost twice the size of the old high school gymnasium, and full-scale science labs are all direct responses to community input for the new high school.
