The Arts & College Preparatory Academy (ACPA) is a unique school on the east side of Columbus that breaks down the traditional barriers between class subject matters by connecting the dots for artistically inclined students. When the architects first toured the building, a student guide told the story of how he always loved and was naturally talented at music, but was failing math in middle school. At ACPA, he was taught the connections between music and math and is now excelling in calculus.
ACPA has become a recognized leader in safety, acceptance, and inclusion. The architects assisted ACPA in receiving a grant from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission for high-performing schools to pay for an expansion of the high school program into the junior high grades. The renovation to the high school and significant addition to the building that houses seventh- and eighth-grade classes, extended learning areas, a cafetorium, and administrative offices were completed in August 2019. This project required an intense design schedule in order to be completed in time for the 2019-20 school year.
