EYP Architecture & Engineering has announced that Joan C. Berkowitz recently joined the firm as a Historic Preservation Project Executive. With a significant range of expertise, she is acknowledged as a preservation leader and technical expert with a strong record of successful projects. In her new role, she will lead EYP’s award-winning preservation group, supporting the firm’s nationally recognized government, higher education and corporate sectors and securing preservation projects in existing and expanding markets.
Berkowitz possesses more than 26 years of preservation, management and technical experience, and she has received numerous preservation awards. Her previous preservation projects includes Grant’s Tomb, Vassar College’s Van Ingen Art History Library, the Chrysler Building, the Federal Reserve Bank, Bridges of the Merritt Parkway, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, and many buildings in National Parks.
She is president of the Board of the Association for Preservation Technology International and teaches a graduate level course in the Preservation Program at Columbia University’s School of Architecture. Berkowitz studied Historic Preservation with a concentration in Architectural Conservation at Columbia University, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Vassar College.
