Bowling Green State University’s University Hall Renovation Awarded Prestigious LEED® Gold Building Certification
Columbus, Ohio, March 29, 2018 – The University Hall Renovation at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) was recently awarded LEED® Gold. The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes, and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained, and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
The University Hall Renovation, designed by BHDP Architecture, welcomed students in the Fall of 2017 at BGSU in Bowling Green, Ohio. It is a dynamic facility housing the offices of several high-impact university programs along with the relocation of the Admissions Office, creating an engaging and impressive first experience for prospective students and guests. It also includes cutting-edge classrooms that service the entire campus, illustrating the latest benchmarks in flexible and adaptable active learning environments.

Sustainability was of utmost importance during the design and for the operation of the building. New windows throughout the entire building, reminiscent of the grand divided lights of the original building, help incorporate the strategic integration of natural light sources. Efficient LED light fixtures, reduced potable water plumbing fixtures, and commitment to provide at least 35% of the building’s electricity from renewable sources all play a part to lessen the carbon footprint of the building. Low emitting materials along with enhanced commissioning efforts will serve to better the indoor environment for the daily users of the project as well as it many visitors. When reducing the physical footprint of the building and restoring back valuable green space, over 90% of the materials removed were diverted from the landfill.
