Huston & Company Greener With Solar Array and new Finish

Solar array helps worker breathe easier

In recent months, with the addition of a solar array to offset power usage, and a new finish that helps workers breathe easier, Huston & Company, a  small company with the capacity to build large projects, has diminished its carbon footprint further.

The installation of a solar array on the roof of the company workshop will decrease the company’s draw of electrical power from the grid. The 48 solar panels were installed in February by Revision Energy. On average, the solar array is expected to produce 16,500 KW per year, which equates to between 60 and 70 percent of the annual electrical needs of the company, offsetting roughly 30,000 lbs of CO2 emissions from traditional sources of grid electricity per year.

Trading in its standard, conversion varnish finish and moving to a new, environmentally friendly version, the company has improved its work environment further without compromising on quality. The new finishing product offers exceptional resistance to water and other liquids, cleaning solvents and wear, as did the previous finish. But the new finish was specifically formulated without formaldehyde, to eliminate formaldehyde off-gassing concerns during the curing and drying process. The new finish is GREENGUARD-certified free of all hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).
