Wright State University’s Creative Arts Center, home of the School of Music and Departments of Theatre, Dance, Motion Pictures, Art, and Art History, was creatively renovated and expanded in response to growing program demand within the College of Liberal Arts.
To establish a rebranding and a bold new identity at this pivotal location on campus, the addition is artfully clad in custom white precast panels laced with shadow-casting striations.
The result is a striking skin that dances with the movement of the sun. Dichroic glass fins add further animation and produce a subtle color performance throughout the day.
The new dance studio is equipped to teach ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary dance. A movement/combat studio was designed for Shakespearian performance. Also included is space for Pilates as well as crossover support space equipped with lockers for pre-function stretching.
The art department received the new Stein Gallery to display its permanent collection, as well as a two-level temporary exhibit gallery, a student gallery, and substantial art storage.
To elevate the acoustic quality of the space, the Department of Music received new studios that enable faculty members to teach in an accurate, responsive, sound-controlled environment, along with sound-isolated individual practice rooms.
