Wisconsin Evans Scholars House
Madison, Wisconsin
The timeless design of this housing solution at the University of Wisconsin-Madison complements the area’s historic Greek Row structures. The project appeals to the goals, expectations and values of the neighborhood steering committee, and the thoughtfully designed outdoor plaza reinforces student camaraderie and a sense of community. It is an urban solution embraced by the community.
The project features five levels of enhanced spaces for studying and recreation. In addition to providing a modern living and learning environment, the project increased the potential resident capacity to 90 scholars. The building offers a two-story lobby space with a lounge area on the first and third floors to support activity and camaraderie. Each floor offers two-, three- and four-bed sleeping rooms with resident assistant accommodations. Large shower/bathroom areas were designed with flexibility to accommodate co-ed residents on each floor, if desired. A single unisex shower/bathroom provides an additional level of privacy and choice. The lower level includes a study room, conference room and a large multipurpose room that supports a variety of activities.
