Villanova University, Finneran Pavilion
Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania
The design team reimagined the 30-year old Pavilion, the on-campus home of the Villanova Wildcat basketball teams. The goals of the project were to enhance the Major Division I fan experience and increase revenue while celebrating the uniqueness of The Pavilion. Upgrades to the two-story, 6,500-seat structure include a relocated main entrance, a new concourse, and increased premium offerings, seating, and amenities.
After passing through the renovated outdoor plaza, fans enter a new lobby and hall of fame, with graphics and memorabilia celebrating the history of Villanova’s athletics program. Beyond the lobby, a balcony “ring” overlooks the open court. Above, a 360-degree concourse is activated with merchandise and concessions.
The unique hyperbolic roof form was seen by the team as an opportunity to be celebrated. More than 400 linear LED light fixtures accentuate the volume of the exposed roof structure. Four corner video boards and a center-hung LED and fascia ribbon boards were combined with a state-of-the-art sound system, elevating the fan’s experience to that of a Division I arena.
