University of Tennessee, Natalie L. Haslam Music Center
Knoxville, Tennessee
George F. DeVine Music Library is located on the ground floor of the Natalie L. Haslam Music Building.
The goal for the design of the entire music center was to maximize space usability for music teaching, practice, rehearsal and presentation. The George F. DeVine Music Library is in tune with the mission of the facility.
The library incorporates mobile student desks on casters for one-on-one tutoring or breaking into small study or work groups. It also has electronic bookcases to enhance the accessibility of documents and materials needed, while taking up minimal space.
The building, including the library, is accessible by people with disabilities. This is possible through lower transaction counters at the library circulation desk and receptions areas, and accessible seating in the lounging areas.
To enhance new user wayfinding, the central atrium and monumental stair provide the campus community with easy access from the library to other avenues within the building.
Overall, the library is equipped and designed to foster student learning and creativity.
