Based on extensive research focused on millennials, centennials, instructors and teaching pedagogies, the Facilities Services Interior Environments team presented a new approach for the future of campus classrooms. In partnership with the Classroom Committee, designers standardized FFE selections by type: fixed seating, training table and chair, individual student desk and chair, and mobile tablet arm chairs.

The design concept uses carpet and the University’s vast inventory of colorful furnishings to provide color accent, rather than by brightly painted walls, as in the past. The rooms are calm, functional and easier to maintain since custodians are no longer tasked with keeping the rooms segregated by color.

The Facility Services Construction teams replaced all finishes, lighting, lighting controls, window treatments and if required, ceilings and A/V. The dramatic changes have been well received and will continue on upcoming projects.
