University of Michigan, Stephen M. Ross Academic Center

The academic center provides study space by consolidating numerous locations throughout campus into a single facility that enhances academic programming for more than 700 student athletes.
The three-story building, situated north of Yost Field House and adjacent to the Marie D. Hartwig Building, is organized to respond to the massing of Yost Field House while creating a defined entry into the athletic campus. The design, using steeply sloped roof profiles and masonry with precast concrete trim, creates an architectural transition between the Hartwig Building, a Tudor-style original 1912 “Club House” and Yost Field House built in 1923.
The lower level, partially below grade, provides computer labs and tutorial spaces, and opens to a multi-level outdoor courtyard with vistas of the historic Ferry Field Track and Intramural Building.
Situated on the main entry level are the reception area, staff offices, an academic study lounge, group meeting rooms, a breakout room with access to an exterior terrace, and the Wolverine Room, a multimedia teaching space.
The upper level provides space for 18 individual
tutorial spaces, three tutorial lounge areas grouped into meeting rooms, and the NCAA Life Skills Facility.
