University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, School of Labor and Employment Relations
Champaign, Illinois
The comprehensive renovation of and additions to the School of Labor and Employment Relations (LER) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign reflect current trends in education, and provide for dynamic interaction of its students, faculty and staff. Using Universal Design approaches, the project reflects current thinking in education with two new active learning classrooms and a renovated student lounge and gathering space. A new face for the building complements its original mid-century architecture and brings more natural light and openness into public areas.
LER is a national leader in the field of human resource management education and research. Established on campus in 1942 with a focus on labor relations, the original LER building was completed in 1960. Since then, the programs developed and offered by the school have expanded, now encompassing law, commerce, human resources, management, and industrial relations. Graduates from the program enjoy a 97% career placement in corporations all over the world.
Through this time, the LER building had never received a major renovation. This one brings it new life for future generations.
