On the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University’s Housing’s Student Dining and Residential Programs (SDRP) building was designed to be an exciting new space for residents to dine, gather and find the resources they need. The SDRP serves a neighborhood of 4,500 residents on a campus of 40,000.

The Ikenberry Dining Center within the SDRP features a 1,200-seat dining environment with a serving area featuring seven food venues, each with a different cuisine focus. The SDRP also offers unique dining options such as 57 North, which offers freshly prepared food, beverages, local produce, plus grocery and personal items. The Caffeinator is a comfortable coffeehouse lounge featuring fresh bakery items, specialty coffees, smoothies and other beverages.

The SDRP provides University of Illinois student resources such as the Learning Commons with computer labs, residence hall library and study rooms with built-in technology; a Student Leadership Suite, which provides space for student leadership organizations; several meeting, seminar and multipurpose rooms; music practice spaces; and an exercise room with a variety of equipment to be used by students with and without disabilities.

The SDRP is connected to the first phase of Timothy J. Nugent Hall, University Housing’s first new residence hall in more than 40 years and home to the Beckwith Program. The SDRP is a space that exceeds a standard of simple accessibility and is a space where the quality of life for residents and guests is not diminished by physical barriers. This creative design will be held as a model for future University Housing projects.

The SDRP is seeking LEED silver certification for sustainable building practices.
