The renovation creates engaging interior and exterior spaces, providing UC Blue Ash with a distinctive "sense of place" missing from this branch campus. The project provides a reorganized library, an adjacent study commons and a new food service operation.

In response to how students use contemporary libraries, the plan is ordered as a gradient of continuous space from quiet, individual study spaces in the back of the library to louder, collaborative seating areas near the Food Service concept. This organization blurs traditional boundaries, allowing the library functions to extend out to the study commons and campus beyond.

Due to a lack of natural light in the existing condition, the North wall of this 1960s building has been opened up with a series of large punched openings to allow natural light to reach deep into the renovation.

The renovated spaces are detailed with a black oxide steel fireplace and circulation desk, wood ceiling and wall panels, durable finishes, and energetic colors. The refined material palette spans both the library and the study/ dining area, unifying the two spaces.

Exterior space has been developed as an extension of the interior dining and study space. This outside space is designed as a collection of rooms, interconnected and open to each other, providing continuity while also defining smaller, personal areas.
