This multipurpose student activity center fills the need for a districtwide, community-based facility that provides multiple uses and revenue streams to support operations and the foundation endowment. A feasibility study was developed to determine program uses, seating size, market analysis for naming rights, revenue opportunities and operating costs.
The functional design of the arena facility required maximum flexibility to accommodate a wide variety of uses, such as competitive sports, trade shows, banquets, concerts, intramural sports, student gatherings, band, dance and spirit squad.
The solution is Hammonds Arena, which is named for hotel developer John Q. Hammonds. This facility has 5,660 seats, which are retractable to 2,800 fixed seats, and support spaces for concessions, ticketing, a retail store, offices for coaches and fine arts, meeting rooms and locker rooms.
The Wellness Community Center, sponsored and operated by SouthCrest Medical Center, includes cardiovascular programs, strength and conditioning, a climbing wall, indoor track, health and lifestyle programs, sports medicine and rehabilitative programs—all available to school district patrons.
