Beck Design, Professional Engineering Consultants, and Rick Scott Construction completed the $1.2 million remodel of the Tulsa Community College (TCC) Southeast Campus Store on Feb. 18, 2016. The project has transformed student life and the student experience on campus. Tulsa Community College’s focus was to create a space that would attract students seeking to acquire books and supplies as well as provide an area where they would want to gather. The design, which resulted from collaboration with staff, students and faculty, created a successful, functional and beautiful space. Beginning with a new entrance and an organic modern rectangular arch entry, the remodel converted the space into an engaging and lively atmosphere.
This project has more than doubled clothing and merchandise options through use of innovative displays and storage made by Opto International Display systems. Some of the items featured are skateboards, headphones, and women’s accessories. The open and well-lighted spaces create a self-serve environment where students can easily find needed items. The comfortable, modern design extends into the public spaces where students can study and collaborate. The vibrant environment combines exciting colors that incorporate TCC blue in open areas; quiet study spaces, such as the art gallery; and lively areas for students and staff to use throughout the day. An interactive video game lounge is a place for students to relax, watch TV or play games in a comfortable yet funky seating area. Students also may order snacks and soft drinks.
The remodeled store provides students more efficient service when buying books. The new floor plan enables employees to find the appropriate books based on a student’s schedule or syllabi. This new model reduces the total transaction time by up to 60 percent and significantly increases the accuracy rate.
The TCC Southeast Campus Store remodel combined research, student feedback and a collaborative input It is an investment in the student experience that reflects the college’s continued commitment to student success and academic excellence.
