Envisioned as an entirely student-focused facility, the new University of Tennessee Student Union meets the needs and expectations of today’s college student.
Central to the heart of campus activity, the Student Union provides a delightful assimilation of spatial activities necessary for today’s youth-oriented student life experiences.
This first phase asserts itself as a bright spot on campus: conveniently situated, flooded with natural light and focused on encouraging both social interaction and career resource connections.
As an organizing agent, circulation across campus is reinforced in the design through a blend of open garden plaza ways and “living room spaces” used to gather and collaborate.
Serving students’ programmatic needs, the initial phase incorporates a book and supply store, technology store, coffee shop, central campus retail dining with five food concepts, and The Center for Career Development.
The final phase will include additional dining facilities, a recreation center, offices for student organizations, a 1,000-seat auditorium, ballroom, meeting rooms, student support offices and other campus administration functions.
