The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Ctr., Renovation
Pomona, New Jersey
This project consists of a renovation of an existing library resource center and a rooftop addition. The rooftop addition adds academic space in the form of a seminar room and multimedia lecture space. The renovation enhances the existing resource space, allowing for improved storage of Holocaust-related information and providing enhanced academic facility capacity for research and communication purposes within that space.
It also includes informative items such as educational video displays that provide testimonies from Holocaust victims and a newly constructed climate-controlled display area that showcases historical artifacts from this period.
A renovated rotunda at the main entrance of the center includes names of philosophers and freedom fighters to honor their efforts.
As a dramatic expression, this emotionally evocative design incorporates distressed wood at the new main entrance that is reminiscent of the same wood used in the box cars that transported victims. Authentic rails that were used to transport victims were imported from Europe and incorporated into the construction.
