The Ohio State University (OSU) “Faculty Innovation Center,” created for the Office of Distance Education and eLearning, features:
• A flexible 70-student classroom-in-the-round
• A mock board room for practice with green-screen technologies and teleconferencing
• Multiple breakout spaces for small group interactions
• Varied seating options and access to outdoor space to create a flexible, energetic, adaptable teaching and learning environment
• A branded interior with many amenities, including serving bar, sink and fridge, supporting a curated OSU experience for visitors from across the state

Creative integration of technology was critical to making this oddly shaped space functional and flexible. The space accommodates a variety of technology-related educational uses, including video lectures, distance learning for students not on campus, and training for OSU faculty and secondary teachers from across the state on how to leverage enhanced-technology classrooms.

This flexible space supports new ways to reach students and a variety of blended learning strategies, thereby contributing to university resilience and adaptability in the face of rapidly changing higher education conditions.
