Ohio State’s Office of the Chief Information Officer and Office of Distance Education and eLearning are both critical to the success of the university, but prior to this project, had no central location. The vision for this project was to bring together all personnel into one flagship facility, within a rich working environment on par with private tech company workplaces.
Originally developed as part of a freshman campus set apart from the main campus, the buildings in this sub-district have been transformed from classrooms to business uses that support administrative functions of the university. With competition for tech industry professionals at a premium, Ohio State sought to not only re-occupy this brutalist-era building, but also completely transform it. The university gutted the interior and remodeled the entire building, creating an environment that supports recruitment and retention in this competitive industry.
Interior spaces include a range of open and closed offices, a variety of meeting spaces spanning size and privacy ranges, a cafe, a computer forensics lab and cyber-security department, video-production facilities and various other spaces.
