This renovation provided the School of Communication with a recognizable presence and expanded research capabilities. New gaming research and audience response labs have enabled the school to pursue new avenues of research and study, increasing its academic influence.

On the first floor, the original 1920s facade had been left in place, creating a massive wall between the 1970s lobby and conference room. The design modified the structure, unveiling original openings to create a light and open aesthetic for the new 50-seat communication research room in the formerly claustrophobic conference room. Full-height glass panels enable natural light to fill the room and extend visibility to the street beyond. The once harsh and unaccommodating lobby was transformed with upgraded finishes, new lighting, power/data access and new furnishings into a welcoming space that meets students’ needs.

The renovation also transformed an abandoned library space into a new 37-person open office suite for the College of Arts and Sciences and converted an under-utilized TV production studio into a state-of-the-art, 120-seat, multimedia classroom with distance-learning capabilities.

"Tremendous value! An amazing interior space transformation; elegant colors, finishes and furniture."–2010 jury
