The Culinary Institute of America, Admissions Building

The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., is the oldest culinary college in the United States. The new admissions building consists of a two-story addition of about 12,600 square feet on each floor, connected to the Shunsuke Takaki School of Baking and Pastry, and the J. Willard Marriott Continuing Education Center.
The new building efficiently combines admissions, financial aid and bursars’ offices and functions as a welcome point for new and prospective students. The building also features a
99-seat demonstration cooking theater that has 65-inch plasma screens, integrated video systems and modern kitchen equipment. The entry lobby features a terrazzo floor and a spectacular elliptical staircase with a skylight as a dramatic interior focal point.
“The admissions building is a prospective student’s first impression of the college,” says Rebecca Oetjen, project manager. “This new facility helps the Culinary Institute of America put its best foot forward. And, housing three functions in the same building makes for a smoother enrollment process for students.”
