Texas Tech University, Main Library Renovation
Lubbock, Texas
The architect initially provided a needs-assessment study for this project. The renovation design encompassed about two-thirds of the 300,000-square-foot library.
The project includes a complete redesign of reference, reserve, government documents and periodical collections, as well as redesign of the circulation and administration areas. The building retains the spirit of the original facility built in the 1960s. The reference room includes a mezzanine to increase usable area. Electronic signage has been provided at the circulation and reference desk. A new Teaching/Learning Technology Center intended for training faculty in the latest computer technology also was developed.
The project includes more than $3 million in new furniture. The phased renovation allowed the library to remain operating during the 36-month construction period.
