The $9 million state-of-the-art Player Development Center-West Campus opened in early summer 2014. It replaces Netum Steed Laboratory, which was razed as part of the redevelopment of Kyle Field. The new PDC is used by Aggie soccer, swimming/diving, volleyball, softball, equestrian, track and field, cross country, golf and tennis student-athletes.
The 22,000-square-foot center has new benefits, including Infinity flooring with built-in weightlifting platforms, three massive overhead fans, an approximately 16-foot-tall concrete medicine ball wall and approximately 3,000 square feet of turf outside. Student athletes also can access a full exercise science lab containing a hydrotherapy pool, DEXA body scanner, and full classroom for teaching and training purposes.
The facility houses a full-time nutritionist. Fourteen televisions and data ports were included next to the weight room work stations in anticipation of going paperless. Administrators also plan to use the data ports to install cameras so athletes can film workouts to examine technique and bar movement speed.
