Texas A&M University, Kyle Field Redevelopment
College Station, Texas
The largest stadium redevelopment in college football history was completed in just 22 months, and Texas A&M did not miss a single football game of its 2014 season in historic Kyle Field. The $485 million construction project began Nov. 9, 2013, and was completed for the 2015 season opener on Sept. 12, 2014.
The project team was challenged to design the best collegiate football stadium in the nation, and they rose to the challenge. Kyle Field is where tradition meets innovation. The new stadium is a living monument to the uniqueness, culture and storied history that is Texas A&M University. Kyle Field holds fast to generations-old traditions while providing a state-of-the-art facility and unifying the campus.
Through material choices, brand activation graphics and a clear vision, Kyle Field tells the story of Aggie football and the program’s history of dominance. It communicates the elite mindset behind the iconic brand. Kyle Field contains numerous high-quality, unique spaces. Populous worked with individual suite holders to customize 12 founders’ suites with tailored finishes and furniture.
The finish materials in Kyle Field’s interior design palette include stained walnut wood, antique mirrors, back-painted glass, natural limestone quarried in Texas, and numerous finish materials custom-colored to “Aggie Maroon.” In true Aggie fashion, 12 original oil paintings also were commissioned for the 12 founders’ suites.
Headlined by the awe-inspiring Hall of Champions, this dynamic, three-story space may be used on non-football dates to host donor galas, student events and corporate retreats. It is the largest public space on campus and includes continuous ribbon boards, 20 custom graphic displays and a maroon ceiling featuring a halo-lighted A&M logo. In addition to the Hall of Champions, the facility has public plazas, patios, a theater and other multipurpose spaces that enable Kyle Field to be used 365 days a year.
