Dineen Hall anchors Syracuse University’s west campus expansion: It is a distinctive, five-story, state-of-the-art building for the College of Law. The desire to introduce natural light into every occupied space in the building drove much of the internal planning logic. A skylighted central atrium at the main level introduces natural light through the building and visually links the core programmatic spaces: library, celebratory space and ceremonial courtroom. It is positioned beneath a green roof courtyard that provides a seasonal outdoor terrace space. The courtyard also facilitates the distribution of natural light to the surrounding offices spaces.
The ceremonial courtroom is visible from inside and outside the building and signifiies the law school’s inherent accessibility and transparency. Teaching spaces, outfitted with the latest educational audio and video technology, are combined with study spaces dispersed throughout the building to accommodate all aspects of a modern law education in a single building. The project is on track to receive LEED Gold certification.
