SUNY Morrisville, Roger W. Follett Hall
Norwich, New York
The program included classrooms, distance-learning rooms, laboratories, a library, faculty and administrative offices within a single 36,600-square-foot academic building at the satellite Norwich Campus. The state-of-the-art facility supports SUNY Morrisville’s designation as a “Thinkpad” university with wireless connectivity and audiovisual technology.
The design integrates the new academic building with the existing Eaton Center complex, yet differentiates the new building as an independent facility.
The building design responds to the site context and the college’s primary goal for the project: create a new building that reflects a formal academic character and symbolizes the use of technology in education, promoting interaction among students and with the adjacent business complex.
The organizational model clusters the active student services around the atrium lobby, fostering a dynamic and vibrant community space. The interior character is bright, warm and clean with glass and metal accentuated by the natural light provided by ample skylights and windows. The library enjoys vistas to nearby hills and to landscaped areas at the front of the building. These elements result in a distinctive interior environment appropriate to the pursuit of academic excellence.
