The new replacement facility (500-student capacity) for Stono Park Elementary sits upon the site (about 5 acres) that was home to its circa-1950 predecessor.

The original school was demolished in order to make way for the new facility, which is based on the Charleston County School District Education Facility standards.
The limited site acreage and existing flood plain necessitated a two-story facility design.

Master planning took these and other limitations into account in order to maximize the building program and on-site circulation.
