Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Pioneer Cellular Event Center
Weatherford, Oklahoma
This 100,000-square-foot facility, a joint project of the city of Weatherford and Southwestern Oklahoma State University, enhances educational, business and entertainment opportunities for Western Oklahoma and beyond. A unique plan allows access to concessions and restrooms to be shared with the adjacent football field. The third floor event room overlooks the football field and the arena.
The arena seats nearly 3,500 for athletic events and 5,000 for concert and seminars. The steep site provides entry on the concourse upper level and the lower level for player entrance and service. Athletic locker rooms for varsity basketball, volleyball and visiting teams are designed for male or female use during large tournaments. Office facilities for the athletic department are entered from the east lobby and are connected to the existing gym by a covered walk way on the backside. The brick facade is continued as an entry archway to the football stadium. Red and buff brick matches other campus buildings.
