Linked by a 110-foot bridge to William Henry Harrison High School, this new gymnasium/theatre provides space for students and community groups. The designers organized the facility around a 175-foot, two-story lobby. The lobby allows access to the arena and auditorium. Ticket and concession areas anchor each end, while an open atrium visually connects the upper-level bridge/mezzanine to the stage/court level below. Service and mechanical spaces located to the rear take advantage of the sloping site.
Curvilinear balconies in the theater will enhance acoustics and provide for multilevel antiphonal performances. Colored precast concrete allowed designers to combine motifs from the high school, with details that add interest to its large scale.
Major features include a 770-seat theatre with scene shop; 2,400-seat wildcat sports arena with track; community conference room; and parking for 356 cars and 36 buses.
