Snyder Elementary School
Snyder, Texas
Snyder Independent School District decided to close six obsolete elementary schools and combine the 1,200 students into one main facility, gaining staffing efficiency and conserving energy and natural resources. The facility’s student grade levels are divided into halves (K to 2 and 3 to 5), each separated by a shared central core of common-use spaces. Major spaces such as the gymnasium, media center and cafetorium are designed as dividable spaces to ensure the separation of age groups and their educational requirements.
Floor patterns and color schemes enhance the separate identities of each half of the school, and the six new classroom wings are designed as symbolic representations of the six closed schools—distinguished by separate interior entries and named for each of the original schools.
