Scarlet Oaks Career Campus, Renovation and Additions
Sharonville, Ohio
The 21st-century economy demands educational environments that offer not only shelter for learning, but also foundations for lifelong education. This is why Great Oaks transformed the traditional "corridor and classroom" layout at its Scarlet Oaks Career Campus into an open, community-focused center for knowledge.
The existing 1970s industrial composition lacked a clear entrance and gathering areas, was difficult to navigate and required external travel between building sections. A dynamic entry canopy breaks the horizontality of the existing structure and surrounding landscape, resulting in a highly visible campus center icon.
A new "commons connector" provides continuous internal circulation between the new "cybrary" interactive media center and previously disconnected spaces. This encourages interaction among faculty and students while flooding the interior with natural light.
The "commissary" was redeveloped as a dynamic, multipurpose space for student dining, group gatherings and community meetings using bold environmental graphics to reinvigorate the Scarlet Oaks brand.
Brand clarity, simplified circulation and an enhanced, collaborative environment transformed Scarlet Oaks from a "1970s vocational school" to a "21st-century campus for learning."
